We help you achieve good symptom control and quality of life with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

pulmonary management

Our professional caregivers and nurses are trained in and have extensive experience with managing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a chronic inflammatory lung disease that causes obstructed airflow from the lungs.

COPD is treatable, and with proper management, our professional caregivers can help you achieve good symptom control and quality of life, as well as reduce the risk of other associated conditions.

Monitoring and Managing Exacerbations

Our professional caregivers can help to monitor your condition and shortness of breath. Caregivers can help you conserve energy, monitor weight loss (a sign you have increased trouble breathing), and monitor warning signs of an exacerbation. An acute exacerbation may lead to lung failure if not properly monitored, and close supervision by a caregiver can make a substantial impact in treating COPD.

Managing Shortness of Breath and Engaging in Breathing Exercises

Our professional caregivers can help you manage shortness of breath by helping you sit upright after meals and strenuous activity to reduce pulmonary pressure. In addition, our professional caregivers are trained and experienced in administering breathing exercises such as “pursed-lip breathing” to help relieve shortness of breath. Caregiver reporting of changing conditions such as sleeping positon changes and increased swelling can help predict complications with COPD and reduce an unnecessary hospitalization.

Medication Management

Our professional caregivers can help manage your COPD by effectively ensuring compliance with medications prescribed by your doctor, including bronchodilators (inhalers, nebulizers, and pills), steroids, and antibiotics. Additionally, we can ensure you use your oxygen as intended by your doctor and get a flu shot to prevent bronchitis.

  • More than 50% of adults with low pulmonary function were not aware that they had COPD,so the actual number may be higher.
According to the CDC, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD, refers to a group of diseases that cause airflow blockage and breathing-related problems. It includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis. COPD makes breathing difficult for the 16 million Americans who have this disease. Millions more people suffer from COPD, but have not been diagnosed and are not being treated. Although there is no cure for COPD, it can be treated.
