Our Story

In 1988, our president and founder, Maureen Petersen, took a leap of faith.

After raising four children on her own, caring for aging parents and feeling the space of an empty nest, her drive to help others was still so strong that she quit her successful career in the insurance industry and started Professional Caretakers.

In the early days of our business, Maureen saw that many seniors lived far away from family support.

She recognized many family members struggling with decisions over home care for their aging family members. She understood their drive to care of “everything and everyone” and the guilt they felt over not having enough time to spare to provide the attention, support and care that was really needed.

None of this was new to her because she had lived it herself before starting the company. Her advice to her customers then is the same as it is today: “Don’t feel guilty. You can’t do it all.”

Today, Maureen and her family oversee our business offices in eight Texas cities and employ more than 300 caretakers and nurses – all dedicated to helping seniors and others with special needs stay comfortably in their own homes.
